Solid Ink HORITOMO 1oz set 12 colors tattoo ink

These tones were developed and tested by Master Horitomo, drawing on his deep experience in traditional Japanese tattooing, allowing Solid Ink to achieve the colours for a perfect Japanese tattoo composition.

The set includes 12 colours in 1oz bottles:

Odo — a yellowish brown ochre tone reminiscent of straw and woodwork materials, well suited to the clothing of Fujin and Raijin and for subtler colour tones.

Moegi — a reserved, subtle green used in Japan since the Heian Period, one of the three colours of Kabuki Theatre's final closing curtain. Suitable as a base colour for dragons, Fujin, oni, samurai kimono, and the leaves of kiku and botan.

Wakanae — a light, subtle green based on the colour of young sprouted rice, suited to Buddhist pieces, kimono patterns, and the underside of leaves.

Koji — a reddish yellow connected to Buddhism in Japan, a nice base colour for tigers and the metal pieces of samurai armour, pairing well with bright yellow for an old-world ukiyo-e irezumi feel.

Kikyo — named for the flower of the same name and used since the Heian Era, this dignified bluish purple suits the kimono of samurai and oiran.

Bengara — a reddish brown popularised during the Edo Period, used in Japanese irezumi since the days when colours were very limited, invoking an old-world look alongside Shu and the Sumi Set.

Shu — sitting between red and orange, a classic colour of Japan used in irezumi since colours were limited, invoking an old-world feel alongside Bengara and the Sumi Set.

Sakura — created with the cherry blossom in mind, a modern, softer, more accurate take on the pink traditionally shown with Shu, also well suited to tennyo and woodblock-print-style eye shadow.

Shinbashi — popular with geisha of Tokyo's Shinbashi district near the end of the Meiji Era, a reserved yet bright blue tone, fitting for kimono as well as yurei and yokai.

Gunjo — a deeper, toned-down ultramarine blue, long associated with men's clothing in Japan, well suited to samurai clothing and armour.

Fudo Blue Black — based on the blue-black body colouring of Fudō Myō-ō described in the Jyu-Kyu Kan text, a strong colour choice for depicting this figure.

Fudo Blue Grey — designed to pair with Fudo Blue Black for a powerful rendering of Fudō Myō-ō, or used alone and faded with a 50-50 mix with Solid White for a lighter, brighter effect.
